About Miriam Moster

I study the social dynamics of leaving — whether from a marriage, a faith, or a way of life — but my deeper focus is on what keeps us grounded. My research with divorcees and individuals who have left insular religious communities reveals not just the cost of disconnection, but also what strengthens our capacity to stay — to endure, adapt, and thrive.

In a world that often rewards escape, I offer strategies to:

  • Cultivate resilience and rootedness in relationships and community

  • Recognize and address the forces that make us feel like leaving

  • Build a life of meaning, stability, and connection right where we are

  • Strengthen the structures that hold us
